Skagit Valley Tulip Festival – A dose of color

Later this week, I am headed to Washington to witness beautiful wildflowers take over the state’s national parks and I am dreaming of all things floral right now! And so I thought this might be a good time to finally put together a post about my last year’s trip to Skagit Valley Tulip Festival. I would not have been able to capture the delight I experienced in words and thankfully I have these photographs to share with you.

Planning your visit to the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival

  • Skagit Valley is about an hour and fifteen minutes drive north of Seattle. The two main places to see tulips are at Tulip Town and Roozengaard. There is an entry fee at both the fields and ample parking space.
  • As you can see in the pictures, the tulips were not at their peak when I visited but the daffodil fields were splendid! The exact time of tulips peak bloom varies each year but in general, you can expect it to be in the early to mid-April time frame. The daffodils bloom earlier in March. As long as you are fine with some last minute planning, you may be able to catch both daffodils and the tulips in one visit. I recommend checking the prediction and schedule on the official Skagit Valley Tulip Festival website starting mid-March to determine the best time to visit for that year.
  • Since this is the Pacific Northwest, there’s a good chance that it would rain on the day of your visit. Lucky if you get a clear day but expect the fields to be muddy and wearing rain boots is a good idea. Don’t be disheartened if it rains, the puddles make for great tulip reflection shots!
  • As with most popular attractions, you will encounter quite a bit of traffic if visiting on a weekend during the peak. It is best to get there early or if, at all, possible plan on visiting mid-week.
  • Finally, please be respectful of the fields and only walk on the designated paths!
